Although the Whanganui land hearings finished over 10 years ago only 1 of Whanganui’s 4 regional clusters have settled with the Crown. That is Ngati Rangi whose settlement was ratified by legislation in 2020. The three other regional clusters are still in negotiation with the Crown

The Central Whanganui region is currently represented in Treaty negotiations by the Uenuku Charitable Trust. WAI 954 and other claimants representing hapu associated with Tamakana have not supported the mandate of UCT to represent the claims of this district.

UCT have signed an Agreement in Principle with the Crown, which has a number of components- an historical account, a history of the interaction between crown and local iwi, an apology for past breaches of the Treaty by the Crown, and some redress.
